Veer

Veer was found around December 2016, abandoned and wandering in an unfamiliar area. He was barely six months old and surrounded by big street dogs — but he stood his ground, ready to fight the whole pack rather than back down. That is where his name comes from: Veer, which means 'brave' in Hindi.

Beating Death at the Junkyard

He was rescued by a CSI member and moved to a nearby car junkyard. Veer would often disappear for a few days and then suddenly reappear, which made it difficult to get him vaccinated. Before long, he contracted deadly canine distemper.

It took about three months for him to fully recover. With daily medicines, treatment, and care at the junkyard itself, he finally beat the odds and came back from the brink of death — full of life and happier than ever to be around people.

The Entertainer

Veer loves going on bike rides and gets thrilled every time. He is adorable, endlessly fond of people, and completely non-fussy about food. He loves to play and is a natural entertainer — most people fall in love with him instantly.

He is wonderful with other dogs and with kids, though he is also a bit of an instigator: he'll happily start a scuffle between two other dogs and then quietly walk away from it. Above all, he is fantastic company.

Losing the Only Home He Knew

On 17 April 2019, Veer was moved to the shelter along with his pack of seven when they lost their only home — the streets. Metro construction had begun, four of his friends had died in road accidents, and the road was dug up until there wasn't even a footpath left to sleep on.

This happy boy is now vaccinated, dewormed, and neutered. His difficult past left its marks: surviving distemper left him with some deformation of his teeth and a slight mouth twitch, which makes solid food hard to manage, so he eats slowly and carefully.

Part of the Family

Veer is now part of our CSI family and will remain with us for as long as he lives. You can, however, passively adopt this sweet boy with a never-say-die attitude — and you are always welcome to come by and spend time with him at the shelter.
