Shaina

Shaina arrived the way so many of our dogs do — discarded. Around May 2016, when she was barely two months old, someone stepped out of an autorickshaw and abandoned her on the road along with her identical sibling. The two puppies, who looked like a Spitz cross, had nowhere to go. They sat together in the very middle of the street, confused and unsure of what came next, until a CSI member spotted them and carried them to safety at a nearby car junkyard.

The Sister She Lost

Their reprieve did not last. Within a week, Shaina's sibling was run over by a car just outside the junkyard during heavy traffic. Shaina was the one who survived — the lone little girl left of a litter of two, carrying on with a spirit far bigger than her tiny body.

A Princess and Her Attitude

Shaina grew into a sweet little girl with the attitude of a princess. She adores being around people and being cuddled, yet insists on her independence in the same breath. She is not big on food or treats — what she truly loves is a good aerial view of everything. You will usually find her surveying her kingdom from high ground: the roof of the car, a chair, a table, the top of a wall.

Rain, Mud and Belly Rubs

She is the only dog at the shelter who prefers to be drenched. Shaina loves the rain, loves rolling herself in mud, and will happily settle down to relax in any deep surface that holds water — even a pot. She loves bike rides. And the very first thing she asks of anyone she meets is a belly rub, lots of them. She adores them, and if she doesn't get them, she demands them. She is extremely friendly with humans, other dogs and children alike.

Losing the Only Home She Knew

On 17 April 2019, Shaina came to the shelter along with her pack of seven, when they lost their only home — the streets. Metro construction had begun, four of her friends had died in road accidents, and the road was dug up until there wasn't even a footpath left to sleep on.

Part of the Family

This little princess is vaccinated, dewormed and spayed. She is healthy, with no health issues in the past or present, and as sweet, friendly, cute and cuddly as they come. Despite all of that, we could never find a family to adopt her while she was still in her puppyhood.

So Shaina is now part of our CSI family, and she will remain with us for as long as she lives. You can, however, passively adopt this princess — and you are always welcome to come by and spend time with her at the shelter.
